Conundrum of a city
I’ve been away from the blog for two weeks, but I had a good excuse! Last week, I was again in San Pedro, continuing work with my cocoa client.
This sleepy town stumps me. Although San Pedro is Cote d’Ivoire’s leading cocoa hub — over 60% of the country’s cocoa flows through its tiny port — it is stunningly underdeveloped.
From the glorified shack masking as an airport to the potholed main roads, you see signs of neglect everywhere.
And, it is frustrating because San Pedro is full of potential: abundant natural resources, thrumming industry and beautiful beaches.
I will write a post on my trip to this conundrum of a city next week. Stay tuned.
